About

Objective

The overall aim of the BlueCC project is to take underutilised marine species such as invasive crustaceans (i.e. crab and shrimp), echinoderms (i.e. starfish) and ctenophores (i.e. jellyfish), by-catch and cleaner fish from the aquaculture industry to develop new ecofriendly marine ingredients and products using a market acceptance approach. The focus will be on sustainably exploiting chitin and collagen produced by the sources above and commercialising products derived from these polymers.

The project is led by Nofima – the Norwegian Institute of Food, Fisheries and Aquaculture Research.
